A yummy gelato place in Central. Lots of flavors and many interesting and HK inspired flavors as well. You can ask to try before you buy. The gelato was delicious but pricey. 2 scoops for 85 hkd, 1 for 70 hkd. Self service table, more like a quick eat and go.
Best gelato I ever tasted. I had the pistachio praline and the dragon's back. The latter which is a HK exclusive flavour. Both were amazing, the dragon's back is basically a dragon fruit flavour gelato but had the texture of a dragon fruit puree which was phenomenal. The pistachio praline had a similar texture too, a little bready and almost like a museli. Well worth it considering the price.
There's also free flow plain water and a machine yo wash and dry your hands at the side.
One of my go to place for ice cream in Central. While you might sweat a bit when climbing the stairs up, the happiness is worthy for sure! Came here several times, and always find their Hong Kong inspired flavors amazing! They have so many flavors every day, from fruit sorbet to very heavy ones with chocolate, caramel and syrups. This is probably every ice cream lover’s happy place!
I was recommended to Messina by my friend who went in July, she mentioned that there is promo after 6pm of 3rd scoop free with purchase of 2 scoops. Seeing the variety of flavours especially pistachio flavour, I decided to saved this place and visited Messina mid-November.
The pistachio and pistachio praline were ok nothing too fantastic for the price point. But when I asked the staff if there is any promo for 2 scoops, she mentioned none, yet my friend went recently and there still is the promo🤔 wonder why there is such a difference.
Price caa 16Nov2023:
1 scoop 70hkd
2 scoops 85hkd
3 scoops 95hkd
And then they asked me to email them back yet errr..anyways oneself, be your own judge if the gelato you received is representative of Messina's "love and hospitality".
Let me start by saying that both flavors were incredibly rich and delightful. The gelato base was creamy and smooth, providing the perfect canvas for these unique flavors to shine.
The Black Sesame Tangyuan gelato was a true delight. It captured the essence of the traditional dessert by infusing the gelato with the flavors of black sesame and tangyuan, a chewy rice dumpling. What set this flavor apart was the addition of mochi within the gelato, adding a delightful texture and surprise with every bite. The black sesame flavor was robust and nutty, while the mochi provided a chewy contrast that elevated the overall experience.
As for the Tofu Pudding gelato, it was a revelation. The flavor was reminiscent of a ginger-sweetened syrup commonly found in traditional Chinese desserts. The gelato captured the delicate taste of tofu pudding perfectly, offering a creamy and silky texture that melted in the mouth. The addition of the ginger-infused syrup-like sauce added a delightful sweetness and a touch of warmth to the overall flavor profile.
Both flavors showcased the creativity and innovation that can be found in the world of gelato. The gelateria truly managed to capture the essence of Hong Kong's unique culinary heritage. Whether you're a fan of traditional flavors or looking for something new and exciting, these gelato flavors will not disappoint.
I highly recommend trying these two gelato flavors if you ever have the chance. The Black Sesame Tangyuan with mochi will satisfy your cravings for a nutty and chewy treat, while the Tofu Pudding flavor with its ginger-sweetened sauce will transport you to the streets of Hong Kong with its authentic taste. Don't miss out on these extraordinary creations!
Finally we find where to eat good gelato in hk. Ok it’s more expensive than in Europe, but it’s worth it. There around 30 flavours to choose from. Almost all we tasted were delicious and creamy: hazelnut, pistachio, choco sorbet, passion fruit.
Wow, I've never had such delicious gelato ice cream before!!
What's more, they had a lot of ice cream flavors, and they provided us with a big cup of water, so you could drink as much as you wanted. Usually, when you go to an ice cream shop, they give you a tiny paper cup for water. But here, you can just sit, hang out, and as for the ice cream portion, they gave a lot – really big ones. If you don't want to eat much, they also have tiny scoops for you.
I think this place not only has a good atmosphere for teenagers but is also great for families to hang out and have a good time together.
About the pic: I couldn’t resist and already had some because it was so delicious!
Been there three times. Ice cream flavors were great.
There are more customers during summer time. The place was full and many customers didn’t get a table. Perhaps setting up some standing table can give some more …
